National Standards for Music Education
The Music Department at Norris School District uses the National Standards for Music Education as the cornerstone of our curriculum for music instruction in the district. The primary aim of classroom instruction is to increase the students’ skills and knowledge in these areas. These standards are:
1. Singing, alone and with
others, a varied repertoire of music.
2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire
of music.
3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
5. Reading and notating music.
6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
7. Evaluating music and music performances.
8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and
disciplines outside the arts.
9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

Winterguard and Winter Drumline season has started! Be a part of these awesomely unique groups! Part assignments have been given out so please have your part ready for the next rehearsal. Next practice is January 5.
Congratulations to Leah Keralis on her selection into the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Winter Winds festival. Students from six states are represented this year in the very select group. Good job Leah!
