General Philosophy of N.A.P. Purpose and Functions of the Program One of the primary functions of the Norris Middle School Advisor/Advisee program is to create an environment for the students in order for them to feel comfortable sharing thoughts and ideas with a small group. A second function of the program is to create a sharing community in which the student feels consistent support and guidance. Goals of the program The goals of the Norris Middle School Advisor/Advisee progrma are to help students at Norris: 1. Develop a trusting relationship with a staff member. 2. Develop confidence and comfort with a small group for sharing thoughts, ideas, and concerns. 3. Get to know themselves and the others around them better through small group discussions. 4. Gain self-confidence through success in small group activities. 5. Understand other people's personal behavior problems through discussion and role playing. Benefits to the Student 1. A consistent relationship with one staff member throughout the school year. 2. A staff member who acts as an advocate for the student regarding academic and social development throughout the school year. 3. A staff member who functions as a liaison with the student and parent(s) or guardian(s). 4. A staff member who helps the student with a variety of developmental issues such as friends, grades, etc.
