Quarter Goals

In the first quarter, we will focus on the following

Social Skills

· the school routine and rules

· making friends and learning each others names

· school helpers and what they do at Norris

Pre-Reading Skills

· letter recognition of both capitals and lower case

· letter sound acquisition

· introduction of the concepts of print

· tracking print from left to right, using the pointer finger to touch the first letter of each word as we listen to an adult read or as we echo read together

· introduction of the twenty-eight high frequency words

· phonemic awareness skills

Writing

· writing their first name the school  way

· correct letter formation

· writing on lined paper, left to right on the page, leaving a finger space between words

· writing a sentence beginning with a capital letter and ending with a period

· Introducing the concept of punctuating with a  period, a question mark or an exclamation mark

Math

· recognizing and writing  numerals to 10

· orally counting to 25

· one to one correspondence 4, 8, 12, 24

· working on birthday and telephone number

· value of numbers 0-10

· patterns with color (AB, ABB, ABC)

· estimation to 25

· vocabulary development (left-right, over-under, above-below, up-down, more-less,,,,,)
