Freshman Transition Program

Objectives

  • improved time management / study skills -- use of PLANNER and IAP
  • goal settinglong term (graduate in 4-years), short term (do my homework everyday)
  • help students acquire skills needed for post secondary transitionCareer Exploration
  • continued social skills development combined with a desire for greater independence  you can do well in school and still have a social life!
  • get involved -- take a risk and join a club, sport, run for an officemake the most of high school!!

Ninth grade challenges...

Higher expectations academically -- 9th grade is often the most academically difficult experience of a students K-12 experience "even students who entered freshman year with above-average test scores could end up off track by the end of the 9th grade.--Education Week

  • The content is more challenging
  • The number of teachers is greater
  • Credits count for graduation
  • Grades count on transcripts -- GPA/class rank are important  sample #2
