Life Living
This course is designed
to prepare students
for his/her
future in society and give him/her
a better understanding of self and
family.
Consumer education,
relationships,
and responsibilities are some of the
topics included in this course. This class also takes an in-depth
look at one's self image, self concept and self worth.
Limited budget is considered in
regards
to clothing and it's care, food purchases
and preparation, decorating,
and consumer knowledge
regarding major purchases.
Relationships with
employers, co-workers,
landlords, and friends are also part of this
course.
This is
designed
to help
students recognize their
strengths & talents
while
managing their weaknesses.
At the end of the semester, students have completed a section of their high school portfolio,
including
a strengths assessment,
personality sorter
&
mission statement.
The knowledge base of family and consumer sciences is generated by concern with
the problems of the home and family, including such issues as family
communication, parenting and child development, the balance of work and family,
nutrition, and management of personal finances.
The emphasis in this course is on relationships, societal issues,
challenges that people face at various stages of the human life cycle—from womb
to tomb. Dating, love, marriage, sexuality, conception, contraception,
child-bearing, middle age, old age, and death are topics included.
Students must be a
junior or senior
to take this semester-long course. |
