The study of children, from birth to adolescence, will be
studied.
The course deals with the adversities of childhood, from family dysfunctions to
stresses as a child and into teenage years.
Professions involving
children are explored
and a play school lab for preschool children
may be a part of
this course.
Child Development...units include prenatal and neonatal development, birth,
infant care, and the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development
of children. Parenting, family structures, child abuse, child care, and
childhood education are among issues addressed. Several theories of child
development are studied. Students work directly with children in labs where they
can plan and implement age-appropriate activities.
This is a semester course for grades 10-12.
