Elementary Science Fair
2006 Science Experiments Celebrated at Norris Elementary
From sports drinks to spouting volcanoes, the 2006 Elementary Science Fair was a
huge success. Held Friday, April 7th in the Elementary Multi-Purpose Room, the
Fair played host to 97 students and their projects, as well as parents,
grandparents and many scientifically-minded members of the community!
Participants worked on their displays at home in the weeks preceding the Science
Fair. When the big night arrived, students set up their experiments and research
results for the public to view. Popular topics included sharks and dinosaurs,
plants, weather, space and electrical circuits. There were exhibits on health
issues, physics and chemistry experiments and consumer product testing! Hands-on
displays ranged from “goop” to rubbery eggs soaking in vinegar. Research
included the circulation of currency in our economy to the life expectancy of
men and women locally and across the world. Guests could watch the eruption of a
volcano or estimate the effect on their pulse rate after consuming various
sports drinks.
Each of these very creative students were rewarded with a ribbon and a
certificate noting their hard work from the Norris Elementary PTO. The PTO also
provided 25 gift certificates from Lee Booksellers and names were drawn from
among the participants.
In addition, three local sponsors gave coupons for free treats to every one of
the students who exhibited at the Science Fair. A huge thank you goes out to:
Backyard Burger, Culvers, and Urban’s Creamery. Thank you so much for helping
support science and the students at Norris Elementary!
Watch the calendar for next year’s Science Fair to be held in early April. We
hope to see you there!
