About Norris Theatre
The Norris Theatre Department consists of students grade 9-12.
The
actors and actresses are what make Norris Theatre as successful as it is. Any
student willing to put in the work can come audition for the theatre
department, and many often do. Most students who participate in theatre do
so throughout their entire high school career. The majority of Seniors in
theatre have been there all four years of high school, giving them the
leadership abilities they need to make a show a success.
Fall Musical
The fall musical is the first play of the year. Auditions are
usually held in mid-September, and the play is usually performed in
mid-October. The fall musical requires all members of the cast to be able
to sing, and in some cases dance. The musical usually has a large chorus
and a number of lead roles, though this varies depending on the play that is
chosen.
One Act Play
The one act play is a short play usually consisting
of...well...one act. Auditions for the one act are usually held right
after the fall musical gets over and is performed throughout the end of November
and beginning of December. The one act is a competitive play that is taken
on the road to other schools to compete in the all day One Act
Competition. Schools from around the areas compete against each other in
Conference and Districts. The winner of each district goes on to the State
One Act Competition in December. Because the one act set has to be moved,
it is usually smaller than the sets for the fall musical and spring play.
The one act usually has a few main roles and a small chorus.
Spring Play
The Spring Play is the final show of the
school year. Usually running from the beginning of March to the end of April,
the spring play is usually the largest production of the year. Because there is
nearly a month and a half of preparation time, the sets are usually much larger
than the sets that are used for the fall musical, and a larger chorus is usually
assembled for the larger show.
Titan Players
Norris students who are interested in theatre are encouraged to join
Titan Players. Titan Players is a student organization that promotes the theatre
arts on campus at Norris and supports theatre departments in surrounding areas.
Titan Talkers
Norris students who participate in speech and drama are
encouraged to join Titan Talkers.
