Elementary Addition Planned

The Board of Education has determined that additional Elementary classroom space will needed in the near future.  An architectural firm, DLR Group, has been hired to assist in the planning.  The Superintendent and Board are now forming a citizens' advisory group to help with the planning.  It is possible that a proposal will be taken to Norris School District patrons for a vote in the fall of 2000.  Anyone interested in being a working member of the advisory committee is invited to attend the first meeting, which will be held in the Elementary Library at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 25.  A notice of this meeting will also appear in the Voice News, as this newsletter might not be delivered before April 25.  If you are interested in serving on the advisory committee but can't make it to the April 25 meeting, please contact Supt. Roy Baker at 791-0000.

Norris Park Project

A year ago at this time, the area south of the High School was totally undeveloped.  The Board of Education's Buildings and Grounds Committee formulated a Norris Park Project planning committee and set a goal of $130,000 to be raised in cash and in-kind donations.  Community response has been terrific.  Over $150,000 has been raised, and the following items are either completed or are in progress:

  1. Site development--dirt work.
  2. Field seeding and fertilizing.
  3. Perimeter fencing and softball field fence.
  4. Underground irrigation system.
  5. Electrical service.

  1. Softball field lights.
  2. Softball infield ag lime.
  3. Softball field dugouts.
  4. Softball field press box.
  5. Softball field sod.
  6. Some trees and landscaping.
  7. Scoreboards.
  8. Entry & 68th St. landscaping--FFA.
  9. Walking paths (summer, 2000).
  10. Bleacher seating (summer, 2000).

People are still sending donations, and the planning committee has established a "wish list" for future additions to the facilities:

  1. Announcers' booth for Band/Soccer field.
  2. Additional bleacher seating.
  3. Expansion of irrigation system.
  4. Lighting along the walkways.
  5. Trees, shrubs, and flowers.
  6. Lights for the Band/Soccer field.
  7. Rest rooms.
  8. Picnic shelter/pavilion.
  9. Playground equipment.
  10. Memorial area for the Park.
