DESCRIPTION
Industrial Technology 8 is an elective 18-week course that explores the four
areas of industrial technology: communications, construction, manufacturing,
transportation. As a study of communications, the students will be organized
into a newspaper staff and produce a middle school newspaper. Each student will
have his or her own responsibility to a specific department on the newspaper.
During the study of Transportation, Manufacturing, and Construction, the
students will work on similarly related projects.
Also available to the students is the opportunity to utilize a computer and
various high tech equipment to complete as time permits. Each unit will be
completed in two weeks. The units (modules) include: aerodynamics, animation,
automation and robotics, CO2 raceway, computer aided drafting, graphic design,
CNC mill, controls and sensors, exploratory electronics, engineer and stress
analysis, fiber optics and lasers, flight simulation, auto exploration,
pneumatic/fluid power, and mechanical power.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will develop knowledge and appreciation of their importance of
technology
2. Students will learn how to apply tools, materials, processes and technical
concepts safely and efficiently.
3. Students will identify and develop individual talents.
4. Students will apply problem solving techniques.
5. Students will apply math and science skills.
6. Students will apply creative abilities.
7. Students will deal with forces that influence the future.
8. Students will adjust to the changing environment.
9. Students will become wise consumers.
10. Students will explore career choices.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. The students will write various articles and editorials to contribute to the
newspaper.
2. The students will write out the answers to any handouts and worksheets that
are assigned.
3. The students will write out any answers to the test questions.
4. The students will write a report on a career area of their choice.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. The students will learn about the history of technology and how that affects
all people.
2. The students will learn about how the areas of Communication, Construction,
and Manufacturing have evolved, and who or what culture was responsible for its
evolution.
3. The students will learn about how other cultures are utilizing various
technologies in the areas of Communication, Construction, and Manufacturing.
