DESCRIPTION

Business 8 is a nine-week elective course. Students will explore the following units of study: parliamentary procedure, accounting, and economics. The economics material is based on materials developed by the Junior Achievement association in conjuction with “real” business people in the community.

CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES

1. Students will study parliamentary procedure as it applies to organizations.

2. Students will study accounting as a career possibility and as the language of business as it applies to everyone.

3. Students will study economics as it applies to their lives as consumers, employees, and employers.

4. Students will interact with the business consultant to get perspectives from the business community.

WRITING ACTIVITIES

1. Students will write the longhand equivalent of the financial statements (income statement and balance sheet).

2. Students will prepare an agenda in outline form; prepare a written main motion and an amendment; and prepare a written response in favor of and against a debatable question in the parliamentary procedure unit.

3. Students will compare the characteristics of the three basic economies (market, traditional, and command) in the economics unit.





MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES

1. Students will compare differences of the economic systems found in the various cultures of countries around the world.
