DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to acquaint students with the industry of Agriculture.
Emphasis will be given to skills needed in the major agriculture areas which
included: mechanics, plant and soil science, natural resources, animal science,
management and leadership. The course is fast moving and experience oriented.
Everything that is discussed will be experienced by the students to familiarize
them with agriculture. This is a 9-week elective open to 8th grade students
only.
CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES
1. Students will study Nebraska agriculture including the importance of,
Nebraska's rank nationally, and careers in Nebraska agriculture.
2. Students will study FFA in Nebraska including the importance of and
activities.
3. Students will study leadership including styles and will interpret qualities
of leaders.
4. Students will study natural resources including the major categories, natural
ecosystems, food chains, and careers.
5. Students will study agriculture mechanics including welding skills, safety,
and careers.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be required to write a report on Nebraska agriculture including
an introduction, body and conclusion.
2. Each student will be required to take a test, or series of tests which will
include vocabulary (fill-in-the-blank) and essay questions.
3. Each student will write a report on their favorite leader.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be exposed to a series of multicultural activities which will
include:
A. View films, filmstrips, and video materials which delineate aspects of
various agricultural activities in foreign countries.
B. Understanding that people of many cultures contributed to the development of
agriculture.
C. Recognize the contributions of women and "minorities" to agriculture.
