Theater 8
TEXTBOOK
The Dynamics of Acting, National Textbook, 1989
DESCRIPTION
This is an elective one semester course for 8th grade students. This class meets
daily during the semester. Areas covered in this course may be, characterization
analysis, theater language blocking, and technical theater. Through these areas,
students will discover their own self-worth and develop an understanding of the
requirements of theater.
CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES
1. Students will study characterization through observations, recalling past
experiences, and reading plays.
2. Students will study theater language and apply it through out the semester.
3. Students will study technical theater concepts which include set, costume,
make up, props, and hair.
4. Students will study the use of movement through the use of the body as a
communicating instrument.
5. Students will study the use of improvisation.
6. Students will study the preparation of their characters for a performance.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will explain the various parts of the stage.
2. Students will create various scenes.
3. Students will show knowledge of play production by producing, directing, and
acting in a performance.
4. Students will write an essay covering their characters.
5. Students will analyze another student's scene by writing down what takes
place and then evaluate it.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. Reading plays written by various playwrights of different ethnic backgrounds.
2. Studying the different physical aspects of ethnic characters to provide a
realistic performance.
