Eighth Grade Body Conditioning

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is an elective class for eighth grade students interested in weight
training. Students will learn terms related to weight lifting and will be taught
correct lifting technique. Through the use of a strength-training program, they
will also learn safety techniques and primary muscle groups used to perform an
exercise.
CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES
1. Students will explain the difference between an assistance and major
exercise.
2. Students will go through three cycles during the nine-week period; cycles
will consist of different sets and repetitions.
3. Students will train, demonstrate proper lifting techniques.
4. Students will execute a split-routine exercise program.
5. Students will integrate appropriate exercises for specific muscle groups.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will keep a daily log/record of lifting activity
2. Students will write responses to a test.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. Students will see a diverse group of people in videos and other supplementary
materials
2. The use of unbiased material and the option of any student of any race to
take the class
will be adhered to.
