DESCRIPTION

The 8th Grade class meets daily throughout the school year and is required for all students. The students have the option to participate in the girls volleyball program, boys basketball program, or girls basketball program in leu of physical education during designated quarters of the year. Students are expected to dress in appropriate attire for class. Flexibility and physical conditioning are stressed with exercises to facilitate these areas being performed at the beginning of class as a warm-up to the day’s activities.

CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES

1. Students will participate in flag football. They will be tested over the rules, knowledge of positions, and field markings.

2. Students will participate in soccer. They will be tested over the rules, knowledge of positions, and field markings.

3. Students will participate in softball. They will be tested over the rules, knowledge of positions, and field markings.

4. Students will participate in various games and activities that promote physical activity and cooperation among classmates.

5. Students will participate in bowling. They will use a bowling scoring sheet and keep score when bowling.

6. Students will participate in badminton. They will be tested over the rules, and court markings.

7. Students will participate in pickleball. They will be tested over the rules, and court markings.

8. Students will participate in running relays. They will perform handoffs while running the relays.

9. Students will participate in team handball. They will be tested over the rules, knowledge of positions, and court markings.

10. Students will participate in one wall handball. They will be tested over the rules.


WRITING ACTIVITIES

1. Students will write out answers on tests.

2. Students may be asked to complete a writing assignment to make up for missed class time.

MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES

1. In each of the activities that we teach, where we can trace the origin of the game or the activity, we will put emphasis on where and by whom the game was invented
2. During the course of the year we will take special days and teach a game that is specific to each of the following cultures. (African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans).
