DESCRIPTION
Sixth grade physical education meets on alternating days designated by the odd
and even days of the calendar. This course is required for all students and
meets the same period as general music. Cardiorespiratory conditioning,
flexibility, strength, and coordination activities are incorporated into the
daily warm-up routine. Individual and team activities are participated in
throughout the year. Emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, teamwork, and
cooperation with others. Written tests are given over some units to test for
knowledge of the activity in terms of rules and strategy, as well as other
important aspects of the activity.
CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES
1. Students will participate in flag football and will be tested over the rules,
knowledge of positions, and field markings.
2. Students will participate in volleyball. They will be tested over the rules,
knowledge of positions, and court markings.
3. Students will participate in soccer. They will be tested over the rules,
knowledge of positions, and field markings.
4. Students will participate in softball. They will be tested over the rules,
knowledge of positions, and field markings.
5. Students will participate in various types of "fun", activity games that
stress fun, participation, cooperation teamwork, along with physically
challenging them to run, throw, dodge or catch objects.
6. Students will participate in basketball. They will be tested over the rules,
knowledge of positions, and court markings.
7. Students will participate in badminton. They will be tested over the rules
and court markings.
8. Male students will participate in wrestling. They will demonstrate proper
technique for takedowns, a pinning combination, and a reversal.
9. Students will participate in floor hockey. They will be tested over the
rules, knowledge of positions, and court markings.
10. Students will participate in team handball. They will be tested over the
rules, knowledge of the positions, and court markings.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will write out answers on tests.
2. Students may be asked to complete a writing assignment to make up for missed
class time.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. In the activities that we teach, where we can trace the origin of the game or
the activity, we will put emphasis on where and by whom the game was invented.
2. During the course of the year we will take special days and teach a game that
is specific to each of the following cultures. (African Americans, Native
Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans).
