The Real Game

DESCRIPTION
Sixth grade Real Game is a six to eight week exploratory careers course that meets daily for 44 minutes.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Students will become familiar with new terminology relating to the world of work.
2. Students will explore the changing domestic and work roles of men and women, non-traditional work roles, and sex-role stereotyping.
3. Students will learn how education relates to occupation, and how occupation relates to income and leisure time.
4. Students will share information about a variety of occupations and working styles.
5. Students will explore the connection between school subjects and the work world.
6. Students will examine why it is important to enjoy the work they choose to do.
7. Students will explore how occupation, income and lifestyle all affect each other.
8. Students will use decision-making skills to explore and express their dreams by choosing lifestyle items (home, vehicle, leisure equipment) they wish to have in their adult lives.
9. Students will create and balance a budget.
10. Students will work in small community groups to create a business.
11. Students will work in small groups to plan a vacation.
12. Students will use decision-making skills to explore and express their dreams by choosing lifestyle items (home, vehicle, leisure equipment) they wish to have in their adult lives.
13. Students will become aware of the importance of civic service in time of distress.
