Vocal Music Grade 5 TEXTBOOK
Music & You (McMillan, 1991) DESCRIPTION
Students sing 3-part rounds, with ostinato and descants.
They study music in its relationship to
America's settlement.
They study the symphony orchestra, and learn to improvise on Orff
instruments. Students learn
to recognize theme and variation, and study various composers.
They continue
rhythm and note reading, folk dance
and creative movement. COURSE
OBJECTIVES 1.
Students will be able to sing many songs with a pleasing tone quality,
adding descant and ostinito. 2.
Students will be able to identify letter names of pitches in treble clef. 3.
Students will be able to respond to beat, using body percussion,
instruments, and different meters. 4.
Students will be able to use expression to reflect knowledge of dynamics. 5.
Students will be able to identify and use a variety of tempos. 6.
Students will be able to identify the instruments in the symphony
orchestra. 7.
Students will be able to identify form, including AB, ABA, rondo, and
theme and variation. 8.
Students will be able to perform melodies with accompaniment on the Orff
instruments. 9.
Students will develop awareness of the role Europeans and Africans played
in the development
of American music. WRITING
ACTIVITIES
Students will write a critique of a live or recorded performance.
Students will write a brief report on a composer, musician, or performer.
Students will write an interpretation of an orchestral work. MULTICULTURAL
EDUCATION ACTIVITIES
Students shall understand that people of many cultures contributed to
America's music.
Students study Native American music, jazz, Latin American rhythms, and
Asian music.
Students do folk dances and games from many different cultures. |
