DESCRIPTION
This is an elective program for sixth grade students to learn how to play a
musical instrument. Students will meet twice a week in sections to learn the
basic fundamentals of playing an instrument. Students will be combined to form a
large ensemble to participate in two concerts.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will demonstrate correct instrumental embouchure and posture.
2. Students will perform the B-flat concert scale up and down from memory.
3. Students will perform the chromatic scale up and down full range of the
instrument.
4. Students will exhibit correct musical reading by performing select musical
exercises.
5. Students will demonstrate the ability to care for their instruments.
6. Students will perform a short solo with piano accompaniment.
7. Students will demonstrate proper concert performance decorum and audience
etiquette.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will complete theory worksheet(s) based on basic music theory
subjects.
MULTICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
1. Students will perform music from other countries in the form of small
ensemble arrangements.
