Course Title: Special Projects in Spanish
Grade Level: 11-12
TextBook(s) Used For This Course:
NONE
Description of Course:
This special class will be operated as an independent study course. It is
repeatable for multiple credit. Students will be assigned to the Spanish teacher
during various periods of the day. In most cases, four days of each week they
will spend in the classroom preparing lesson plans; one day of each week they
will implement those lesson plans in the elementary pod to which the Spanish
teacher will assign them. The assignments will be possible for early elementary
through the sixth grade depending on the particular needs of the student and of
the cooperating elementary level teacher(s). The elementary teacher(s) will be
responsible for classroom supervision and evaluation of the high school
students’ work with the elementary children. Students in this special project
will communicate with the elementary teacher(s) in advance about particular
ideas for their lessons so that theses lessons will correspond with the material
being taught in the pod at that time. An evaluation instrument will be developed
to enable the teachers to provide the high school students with positive
suggestions for improvement in their lessons.
Some possible lessons might include such things as:
1. Counting in Spanish to correspond with arithmetic lessons.
2. Learning colors in Spanish to correspond with art lessons.
3. Names of food items in Spanish to correspond with a unit about diet.
4. Alphabet and phonics in Spanish to correspond with similar lessons in
English.
This list is certainly not exhaustive. The number of possibilities is limited
only by the imagination of students and teachers involved with the project. In
other cases, the student will design individual challenge projects with the
Spanish teacher which will help the student grow as a Spanish speaker.S
