DESCRIPTION
This course introduces more sophisticated grammatical and syntactic structures
while developing and expanding upon the ones acquired in the first-year course.
Emphasis is placed upon the development of original, creative language use.
Instruction is given bilingually, and students are required to use the language
orally in formal contexts.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
The following goals of the Nebraska Foreign Language Frameworks document are the
basis of our course objectives.
1. Students will learn to communicate in Spanish.
Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information,
express feelings and emotions.
Standard 1.2 Students understand and interpret written and spoken Spanish.
Standard 1.3 Students convey information in Spanish.
2. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures.
Standard 2.1 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship
between the practices of their culture and those of some Hispanic cultures.
Standard 2.2 Students demonstrate an understanding of the perspective of the
cultures studied.
3. Students will connect with other disciplines and acquire information.
Standard 3.1 Students reinforce and further knowledge of other disciplines
through foreign languages.
Standard 3.2 Students acquire information and perspectives through authentic
materials in Spanish.
4. Students will develop insight into the nature of language and culture.
Standard 4.1 Students recognize that different languages use different pattern
to communicate and can apply this knowledge to their own language.
Standard 4.2 Students recognize that cultures use different patterns of
interaction and can apply this knowledge to their own culture.
In order to facilitate student acomplishment of these goals, students at the
Spanish 2 level will demonstrate intermediate-low proficiency with the following
linguistic and communication skills

2. The constructions: el + adjective, el + de, el + que
3. Reflexive verbs: forms and uses
4. The present progressive
5. Indefinite adjectives
6. The verb acabar de + the infinitive

8. The imperfect tense (regular form and uses)
9. The preterite tense (irregular forms)
10. The imperfect tense (irregular forms)
11. Imperfect vs. preterite

Communication goals:
1. Describing one's activities at home and school
2. Describing people, interests, professions, etc.
3. Engaging in conversation with others
