DESCRIPTION
This course is an introduction to the Spanish language and cultures. It provides
the basic vocabulary, grammar, and broadened cultural perspective fundamental to
all future studies of the language and its people. Spanish 1 is the first of
four sequentially arranged courses.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The following goals of the Nebraska Foreign Language Frameworks document are the
basis of our course objectives.
1. Students will learn to communicate in Spanish.
Standard 1.1 Students engage in conversations, provide and obtain information,
express feelings and emotions.
Standard 1.2 Students understand and interpret written and spoken Spanish.
Standard 1.3 Students convey information in Spanish.
2. Students will gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures.
Standard 2.1 Students will demonstrate an understanding of the relationship
between the practices of their culture and those of some Hispanic cultures.
Standard 2.2 Students demonstrate an understanding of the perspective of the
cultures studied.
3. Students will connect with other disciplines and acquire information.
Standard 3.1 Students reinforce and further knowledge of other disciplines
through foreign languages.
Standard 3.2 Students acquire information and perspectives through authentic
materials in Spanish.
4. Students will develop insight into the nature of language and culture.
Standard 4.1 Students recognize that different languages use different pattern
to communicate and can apply this knowledge to their own language.
Standard 4.2 Students recognize that cultures use different patterns of
interaction and can apply this knowledge to their own culture.
In order to facilitate student accomplishment of these goals, students at the
Spanish 1 level will demonstrate novice-high proficiency with the following
