DESCRIPTION
Personal Fitness is a semester course that is required for tenth grade students.
This course is designed to evaluate each individual's fitness level and to
develop a program to maintain and/or improve upon their current physical fitness
level. Major emphasis will be placed on cardiovascular, muscular, mental, and
nutritional fitness. A classroom setting will be held a minimum of two days per
week and will be designed to develop an awareness of health problems and
solutions, which have been created by today's lifestyles.
CATEGORICAL OBJECTIVES
1. Students will evaluate current fitness levels and maintain or improve those
levels.
2. Students will explain the basic concepts of cardiovascular, muscular, mental
and nutritional fitness.
3. Students will analyze current health problems.
4. Students will examine the benefits of anaerobic and aerobic workouts.
S. Students will measure the relationship between workload and heart rate.
6. Students will evaluate life style risk factors and their effect on quality of
life.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will write out the answers to short answer and essay quizzes and
tests.
2. Students will write a summary on articles that are health/fitness related.
3. Students may be asked to make-up missed class time by writing a report on a
topic related to fitness.
4. Students may do research papers on related topics.
