DESCRIPTION

Yearbook is an elective course primarily for tenth through twelfth grade students. It meets every other day as part of the regular block class schedule for the last period of the day. Yearbook includes all aspects of producing the yearly annual. Students work on picking a theme; designing the book; establishing and meeting deadlines; layout of spreads; writing copy, captions, and headlines; taking, selecting and editing pictures; working with the publisher; planning and executing a sales campaign; and accounting for yearbook monies.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Students will produce a history of the school year in a bound book form.
2. Students will pick a theme.
3. Students will design cover, end sheets, and internal pages.
4. Students will use publishers computer program.
5. Students will use graphic design.
6. Students will write copy, captions, and headlines for annual divisions and pages.
7. Students will take, select and edit pictures for the annual pages.
8. Students will plan and execute sales campaign for the annual for the year.
9. Students will collect monies and write receipts for sales.
10. Students will attend various events to cover the happenings of the year.

WRITING ACTIVITIES

1. Students will use journalistic and feature style of writing.
2. Students will use caption-writing skills.
3. Students will use headline-writing skills.
4. Students will use Standard English usage.
5. Students will use correct grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
6. Students will follow the style guide set forth for the course.
