DESCRIPTION
This intermediate course is a continuation of studies in the 4 main areas of
Industrial Technology: Communication, Transportation, Manufacturing, and
Construction. This course meets daily for one semester and is open to students
grades 9-12. Prerequisites for this course are: Tech Lab 1. In this program
students are introduced to a specific area of technology through a series of
highly structured, self-guided study units. Through the use of computer
technology and multi-media students gain a more advanced understanding and
appreciation of the history, principles, methods, and career opportunities in
technology, as well as the role technology plays in the world and their lives.
Each unit (module) is intended to be completed in 7-10 days, allowing students
to complete a total of 9-12 modules in the course of a semester. The modules and
or topic areas include: (Communication) Animation, Computer Graphic Design,
Exploratory Electronics, Fiber optics and Lasers, Introduction to Computers and
Servicing; (Construction) Engineering & Stress Analysis, Fluid power;
(Manufacturing) computer Aided Design, Automation & Robotics, CNC Mill, Controls
& Sensors, Co2 Raceway; (Transportation) Aerodynamics, Flight Simulation, Auto
Exploration.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will develop knowledge and appreciation of their importance of
technology
2. Students will learn how to apply tools, materials, processes and technical
concepts safely and efficiently.
3. Students will identify and develop individual talents.
4. Students will apply problem solving techniques.
5. Students will apply math and science skills.
6. Students will apply creative abilities.
7. Students will deal with forces that influence the future.
8. Students will adjust to the changing environment.
9. Students will become wise consumers.
10. Students will explore career choices.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. The students will write out the answers to the questions at the end of a
chapter in the textbook.
2. The students will write out the answers to any handouts and worksheets that
are assigned.
3. The students will write out any answers to the test questions.
4. The students will write a report on a career area of their choice.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITES
1. The students will learn about the history of technology and how that affects
all people.
2. The students will learn about how the areas of Communication, Construction,
Manufacturing and Transportation have evolved, and who or what culture was
responsible for its evolution.
3. The students will learn about how other cultures are utilizing various
technologies in the areas of Communication, Construction, Manufacturing and
Transportation.
