DESCRIPTION
Remediation in the areas of written expression, spelling, vocabulary, and
reading skills are emphasized in this program with the ultimate goal for each
student to return to regular English class. Assignments are based on chapter
lessons. Placement in this course is evaluated by the resource staff or
recommendation by the regular classroom teacher and approval of instructor.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. The student will be to name the parts of speech (noun, pronoun, verb) and
explain the location of each.
2. The student will organize a paragraph with a minimum of seven sentences to
include a topic sentence and a minimum of six supporting sentences utilizing
correct grammar.
3. The student ill summarize in writing a current newspaper article and a short
magazine articles utilizing the inverted triangle.
4. The students will improve written expression skills based on the daily
chapter lessons.
5. The student will improve spelling skills through an individualized spelling
program based on errors made in his/her written expression and the use of
spelling generalizations.
6. The student will use paraphrasing in reading to improve comprehension.
7. The student will learn to utilize the computer as a tool for writing.
8. The student will develop a team concept in working together to complete
projects.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. The student will write complete sentences within paragraphs.
2. The student will practice writing associated with career exploration.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. The student will read and discuss short stories and essays presented in Scope
and Voice magazines.
