DESCRIPTION
Continued remediation in the areas of written expression, spelling, vocabulary,
and reading skills. Assignments are based on daily lessons. Placement in this
course is evaluated by the resource staff or recommendation by the regular
classroom teacher and approval of instructor.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. The student will improve decoding skills through the use of syllabication and
contextual clues.
2. The student will organize a multi-paragraph with a minimum of seven sentences
to include a topic sentence and a minimum of six supporting sentences utilizing
correct grammar usage, and apply error monitoring strategies for proofreading.
3. The student will analyze current newspaper and magazine articles for relevant
information.
4. The student will use paraphrasing in reading to improve comprehension.
5. The student will learn the purpose of resumes and develop a resume and update
a current resume.
6. The student will identify job seeking and job keeping skills.
7. The student will practice job interviews.
8. The student will spend a day shadowing an individual in a career of interest
and write a summary report of their experience.
9. The student will explain the purpose of various notes and demonstrate their
understanding by writing examples of various notes.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. The student will write business letters.
2. The student will practice writing associated with career exploration.
3. The student will receive assistance in writing activities from other classes
on an individual basis.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. The student will read and discuss short stories and essays presented in Scope
and Voice magazines.
