The Trouble with Lemons, Daniel Hayes
DESCRIPTION
Continued remediation in the areas of written expression, spelling, vocabulary,
and reading skills. Assignments are based on individual needs. Placement in this
course is evaluated by the resource staff or recommendation by the regular
classroom teacher and approval of instructor.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. The student will be able to name the parts of speech clues.
2. The student will organize a paragraph with a minimum of seven sentences to
include a topic sentence and a minimum of six supporting sentences utilizing
correct grammar usage.
3. The student will summarize in writing a current newspaper article and a short
magazine article utilizing the inverted triangle.
4. The student will use paraphrasing in reading to improve comprehension.
5. The student will begin exploring careers and recognize skills needed for
various careers.
6. The student will learn to write letters seeking information.
7. The student will develop a team concept in working together to complete
projects.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. The student will write business letters.
2. The student will practice writing associated with career exploration.
3. The student will receive assistance in writing activities from other classes
on an individual basis.
MULTICULTURE ACTIVITIES
1. The student will read and discuss short stories and essays presented in Scope
and Voice magazines.
