DESCRIPTION
The course is a one semester elective course for students in grades 9-12. Each
student will be introduced to the theory, techniques, construction methods, and
history of sculpture in the round and relief sculpture. The students will be
able to explore the processes of subtractive and addition sculpture relative to
the application of art elements including line, form, color, texture, space, and
value. Emphasis will be placed on the design, completion, and displaying of
student projects.
COURSE OBJECTIVES (periodically modified)
1. Addition sculpture-The students will demonstrate the processes of adding
various pieces of materials together to form three-dimensional works of abstract
and representational art.
A. The students will complete one relief sculpture.
B. The students will complete one sculpture in the round.
C. The students will develop skills appropriate to complete several pieces of
three-dimensional art using a variety of materials (wire, wood, clay, metal,
cardboard, paper, plaster, etc).
2. Subtraction Sculpture-The students will demonstrate the processes of
subtracting material from a parent media to produce a three-dimensional work of
art.
A. Each student will produce several subtractive sculptures, in the round or
relief, either abstract or representational, using wood, stone, or clay.
B. Each student will learn the appropriate methods of displaying their projects.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be required to perform the following tasks:
A. Write a report describing a specific learning activity. It will include an
outline, introduction, body, conclusion, correct spelling, punctuation, and
sentence structure.
B. Each student will be required to take a test, or series of test which will
include vocabulary (fill-in-the-blank) and essay.
MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be exposed to a series of multi-cultural events that will
include:
A. Viewing films, filmstrips, and video material that delineate aspects of
various art/craft activities of foreign cultures and native ethnic groups.
B. .Learning techniques for specific art/craft projects relative to foreign
cultures and native ethic groups.
C. Learning about prominent historical data (person, places, and events) of
foreign
cultures and native ethnic groups.
