DESCRIPTION
The course is a one semester elective course for students in grades 10-12. There
is a lab fee of $20.00 per student. This fee covers the cost of consumable
materials that the students are allowed to keep at the completion of the course.
Each student will explore the various applications of painting techniques
involving the use of appropriate art elements that include line, shape, texture,
color, and value. Students will also be exposed to a variety of expressive
experiences using the principles of design to enhance their own personal
awareness. Successful completion of Introductory Art or 2-D Design is
recommended before taking this class.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Color Theory
A. Students will be able to identify primary, secondary, and intermediate colors
of the color chart.
B. Students will learn appropriate terminology involving color schemes
applicable to a variety of individual sensitivities.
2. Composition
A. Students will learn the importance of composition using the elements of art,
principles of design, and expressive interpretations.
3. Subject Matter
A. Exposure to abstract, realistic, and non-objective subjects will allow each
student to identify and develop an appreciation for a variety of conceptual
experiences.
WRITING ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be required to perform the following tasks:
A. Write a report describing a specific learning activity. It will include an
outline, introduction, body, conclusion, correct spelling, punctuation and
sentence structure.
B. Each student will be required to take a test for classroom safety that will
include vocabulary (fill-in-the-blank) and essay questions.
MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES
1. Students will be exposed to a series of multi-cultural events which will
include:
A. Viewing films, filmstrips, and video material that delineate aspects of
various art/craft activities of foreign cultures and native ethnic groups.
B. Learning techniques for specific art/craft projects relative to foreign
cultures and native ethnic groups.
C. Learning about prominent historical data (persons, places and events) of
foreign cultures and native ethnic groups.
