Introductory Art

DESCRIPTION
This course will serve as a prerequisite for the other courses offered within
the art program. It will expose students to the various mediums, techniques and
materials that are explored more thoroughly in advanced art classes. Emphasis
will be placed on the utilization of the elements of art and the principles of
design. Areas to be covered include, drawing, painting, sculpture, design and
printing processes. Students will be required to keep an up-to-date sketchbook
that will be used as a reference for projects.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
A. Students will be proficient in the follow drawing and 2-D design processes:
1. Still Life Drawing
2. One-Point Perspective
3. Two-Point Perspective
4. Portrait Drawing
5. Figure Drawing
6. Watercolor
7. Collage
B. Student will be proficient in the following mediums:
1. Pencil
2. Color Pencil
3. Compressed Charcoal
4. Vine Charcoal
5. Conte Crayon
6. Pen and Ink
7. Watercolor
8. Oil Pastels
WRITING ACTIVITIES
Students will write a report on a specific artist and time period. This should
include an introduction, body, conclusion, correct spelling, punctuation, and
sentence structure. This report will cover a short biography of the artist, what
was going on during this artist’s life, and what or who influenced the artist.
MULTICULTURAL EDUCTION ACTIVITIES
Students will be exposed to a wide variety of multicultural lessons through
Scholastic Art Magazine.
1. Students will read about different cultures.
2. Students will reproduce artwork of different cultures.
