DESCRIPTION

Advanced 2-D allows students to work in even more detail in the printing and graphic arts areas. Additional exposure to etching, block and silkscreen printing and vinyl will be offered. Students will also study advertising and product design. The elements of design will be incorporated into each area with emphasis on creating a finished, refined product. Students will be required to keep a working sketchbook as part of their grade.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

1. Students will be required to complete projects in the following subject areas:
A. Plate etching
B. Block printing
1. Wood block
2. Linoleum block
C. Silkscreen printing
1. Paper stencil method
2. Applied film method
D. Vinyl applications
1. Single color cut
2. Multiple color cut
3. Multiple color with additions
E. Advertising/Product design
1. Layout/Design concepts
2. Creating a product
3. Marketing a product


WRITING ACTIVITIES

1. Students will be required to perform the required task(s):
A. Complete a report of a famous artist, art technique or process, or period of historical artistic development or,
B. Write a critical analysis of the student’s own work describing the processes, motivation, and artistic content. The reports will consist of an introduction, body conclusion, correct spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

1. Students will be exposed to a series of multi-cultural events which will include:
A. Viewing films, filmstrips, and Video material that delineate aspects of various art/craft activities of foreign cultures and native ethnic groups.
B. Learning techniques for specific art/craft projects relative to foreign cultures.
C. Learning about prominent historical data (person, places and events) of foreign cultures and native ethnic groups.
