Science 2

 

Science as Inquiry

 

The learner will be able to identify the steps of the scientific method. (4.2.1)

 

The learner will be able to demonstrate the process of the scientific method by recording data pertaining to an experiment.

 

Life Science

 

The learner will be able to describe a forest, rain forest and polar habitat, including plants, animals, trees and products.

 

The learner will be able to identify and relate to their daily lives natural resources found in a forest, rain forest and polar habitat.

 

The learner will be able to list 3 characteristics and give and example of each of the following animal groups:  mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and insects.

 

Earth Science

 

The learner will be able to define a fossil as the mark or remains of a plant or animal having lived a very long time ago.

 

The learner will be able to identify 3 examples of natural resources.

 

The learner will be able to describe the earth’s revolution around the sun and the rotation on its axis (day and night).

 

Physical Science

 

The learner will be able to define matter as anything that takes up space and has weight.

 

The learner will be able to define the three states of matter:  soil, liquid, and gas.

 

Social Perspectives

 

The learner will be able to explain the benefits of wellness as they relate to nutrition, exercise, sight, hearing, dental health and personal hygiene.

 

The learner will be able to label and describe the parts of the eye (i.e. iris, pupil, cornea, lens, nerve to the brain and retina).

 

The learner will be able to label and describe the following parts of the ear (i.e. outer ear, ear canal, ear drum, three bones, cochlea and the nerve to the brain)

 

History and Nature of Science

 

The learner will be able to describe the contributions from a variety of men and women in the sciences from diverse cultural perspectives.

 

The learner will be able to explain how a timeline works and use it to answer questions about individuals and events.

 

Science and Technology

 

The learner will be able to use tools and equipment to gather and interpret data (i.e. microscope, thermometer, scales-mass/weight, linear, volume, graphing).

 

The learner will be able to access and communicate information through the use of computers (i.e. Internet sites, software, multimedia).
