Grade 3 - Physical Education

DESCRIPTION

 

      The third grade program begins the transition from the simplified activity of the lower grades to         more advanced and sports-oriented program of the intermediate grades.  Precise fitness routines          are introduced such as aerobic dance and circuit training, etc.  It is here the child begins to      develop     the concept of needed work to realize good dividends from fitness.  They meet twice per         week, and classes are 30 minutes in length.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

1.           Students will participate in various exercise programs.

2.           Students will participate in aerobic running.

3.           Students will become aware of body management.

4.           Students will be introduced to simple sport skills (basketball, hockey, soccer) including lead-up

              games.

5.           Students will be introduced to the concept of goal setting.

6.           Students will be introduced to fitness and flexibility testing.

7.           Students will continue to work on upper and lower body development through various games and

              activities.

8.           Students will participate in and work on more difficult jump rope techniques.

9.           Students will experience being dependant on someone, and being dependable.

10.         Students will be taught the importance of sportsmanship.

 

 

WRITING ACTIVITIES 

     

1.           Students will do various writings on topics related to nutrition.

2            Students will do various writings on topics related to fitness.

3.           Students will do various writings on topics related to self-esteem.

 

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

 

1.          Students will observe hallway poster displays of athletes from various cultures to serve as role

             models.

2           Students will experience nonsexist, unbiased, non-derogatory language in the physical education  

             classroom.

3.          Students will learn the cultural origins of games and activities.
