Share the Music (McMillian McGraw Hill) 2003 Grade 2

 DESCRIPTION

Second graders continue to master tone matching while using a clear singing voice.  Students continue to work on rhythm and melodic reading and beat response.  Students are introduced to Orff instruments and exposed to written music and note values.  Students learn to identify tone color differences.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

1.   Students will be able to sing many songs with a pleasing tone quality.

2.   Students will develop awareness of pitch and tone matching.

3.  Students will be able to respond to beat, using body percussion and rhythm instruments.

4.   Students will be able to identify dynamic changes.

5.  Students will be able to identify the following musical terms:  staff, pitch, notes, tempo.

6.  Students will be able to do simple folk dances.

7.  Students will be able to read simple rhythm patterns, including eighth notes, quarter notes and quarter rests.

8.   Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of other cultures through music.

WRITING ACTIVITIES

Children will use icons or symbols to express music elements.

Children will use simple phrases to describe music.

 

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Students will learn songs and games from different cultures.
