ELEMENTARY VOCAL MUSIC

Share the Music (McMillian McGraw Hill) 2003 Grade 1

DESCRIPTION

Music at the first grade level includes many activities.  Students come to the music room two times every 6 days for 25 minutes classes.  Students sing many simple songs, and develop an awareness of pitch and tone matching.  They respond to beat using body percussion and rhythm instruments. They develop awareness of tempo, dynamics and mood.  Students learn to read simple rhythm and melody patterns.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

1.    Students will be able to sing many simple songs with a pleasing tone quality.

2.    Students will develop awareness of pitch and tone matching.

3.    Students will be able to respond to beat using body percussion and rhythm instruments.

4.   Students will be able to identify dynamic changes.

5.   Students will be able to demonstrate proper audience behavior.

6.   Students will be able to move to music using improvised movement and patterned movement.

7.   Students will be able to read simple rhythm and melody patterns.

8.   Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of other cultures through music.

WRITING ACTIVITIES

Children will use icons and symbols to express simple music elements.

 

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

Students will learn songs and games from different cultures.
