Language Arts Communication 1 TEXTBOOK None DESCRIPTION Language Arts communication skills are integrated and required of all first grade students throughout the day. Students spend time daily on writing activities such as handwriting, journaling, and editing, and on oral communication activities. COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. Students will participate in class discussions related to the topic. ( 1.2.1) 2. Students will connect two or more complete ideas. (1.2.1) 3. Students will listen for the purpose of following directions and gaining information. (1.3.1) 4. Students will write upper/lower case letters correctly – spacing, letter formation. (1.1.6) 5. Students will communicate through written expression, writing words left to right. (1.1.3) (1.1.7) 6. Students will use capitals at the beginning of a sentence and the pronoun “I”. (1.1.6) 7. Students will use phonetic strategies to spell words – initial, medial, and final consonants, consonant blends, ing, and s endings. (1.1.2) 8. Students will use teacher/student generated spelling words. (1.1.1) 9. Students will follow oral and written directions. (1.3.1) 10. Students will read and comprehend print and demonstrate the understanding that reading communicates meaning. (1.1.4) 11. Students will respond to literature.
