Fourth Grade Art

DESCRIPTION

 

            Fourth grade students will learn ways to apply skills and concepts introduced in grades 1, 2, and 3.  They will begin to create more complex works of art with emphasis on drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, and sculpture.  Attention will also be placed on how the elements and principles of art will be expanded through the study of traditional arts in various cultures, as well as individual works by various artists.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

 

1.                  Students will recognize tints, tones and shades regarding color and value.

2.                  Students will recognize the elements of line.

3.                  Students will utilize shape and form to create distance, movement and space.

4.                  Students will recognize that space creates depth, distance, and boundaries.

5.                  Students will recognize that texture can be felt, tactile and visual.

6.                  Students will recognize balance and proportion in art.

7.                  Students will be able to use emphasis and contrast to create dominance.

8.                  Students will be able to use elements to create movement.

9.                  Students will be able to use patterns, sequence and repetition to create interest.

10.              Students will be able to use a variety of shapes and lines to create unity.

 

WRITING ACTIVITIES

1.                  Students will be able to write about their work when asked.

 

2.                  Students will need to copy down instruction on occasion.

 

MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION ACTIVITIES

1.                  Students will be able to talk about and view works of art from other cultures.

 

2.                  Students will create art work based on certain cultures.
