Second Grade Art TEXTBOOK None DESCRIPTION During art in the second grade the young artist will learn a variety of new aspects in art that build upon the skills learned in first grade. Emphasis will be placed on observation skills to help them make discoveries in their own environment. Eye and hand coordination will increase through the manipulation of art media and tools. Some main topics covered include two-dimensional and three-dimensional art, abstract art, famous artists and their techniques. COURSE OBJECTIVES 1. The learner will understand the term imagination and develop strategies for implementing it in their work. 2. The learner will recognize visual qualities in the natural environment. 3. The learner will understand that many art forms are produced by different cultures. 4. The learner will become aware that judgement about art should be based on what they see and accept other’s work and ideas as unique expressions of themselves. 5. The learner will expand their knowledge of types of artists, architects, painters, and sculptors. 6. The learner will realize why people create and display art. 7. The learner will perceive and describe the subject matter and mood in works of art by writing descriptions. 8. The learner will continue the study of art elements and principles and develop further understanding of how they are used in a work of art. WRITING ACTIVITIES 1. Students will describe their artwork through a written interpretation. 2. Students will write information from the chalkboard such as directions, lists, and names of artists, etc. MULTICULTURE EDUCATION ACTIVITIES 1. Each student will participate in many art projects based on ideas and influences from other cultures. 2. Each student will view and discuss several art pieces from artists belonging to several cultures. 3. Each student will discuss feelings about their artwork compared to the feelings and significance of art pieces from other cultures. |
