DESCRIPTION |

Social Studies 7 is required for all seventh grade
students and is part of the seventh grade core curriculum block. It
meets every other day for 90 minutes per session. It is a yearlong
course. This program is an introduction to Geography and Economics.
The units that will be covered in Geography are Unit 1 Geography of the
World, Unit 2 The United States and Canada, and Unit 3 Latin America.
If time allows we will cover Unit 9 Australia, Oceania, and Antarctica.
Incorporation of study skills are included in each unit. The units
covered in Economics are consumer decision making, career choice, saving,
spending, using credit, and money management. The course is process
oriented and focuses on student involvement through group projects and role
simulations. Emphasis is placed on the development of social skills by
using cooperative learning techniques while the students are working in the
group setting. Emphasis is also placed on developing an awareness of
current events. |
