Norris C.A.R.E.S.

We need to recognize the social pressures on today’s young people. Joining SAFE Homes does not imply distrust of your youth. It simply means that you care enough to create a safe, healthy, social environment for them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

1. Can I serve alcohol to other adults in the presence of youth and still sign the Safe Homes pledge form in good conscience?

Answer:  Absolutely! Parents can drink responsibly and legally and still sign the pledge form. The pledge is talking about underage use.

2.  The alcohol in our home is not locked up. Does that keep me from signing the pledge form?

Answer:  It is recommended that any alcohol in your home is monitored, and locking it up is the best way to assure that it will not be available for use by youth. However, storage of alcohol in your home is not a part of the pledge but left up to each individual family.

3. What if my child has messed up in this area in the past, or possibly will mess up in the future?   Does that mean I shouldn’t become involved in Safe Homes?

Answer: Absolutely not!  We live in a society where are kids are constantly offered temptations. They may falter at some time. Norris Safe Homes is an avenue to be made aware of what is occurring in our community, and to support one another as parents. We cannot shelter our youth from the peer pressure that is present in their lives but we can attempt to provide a safer environment for them.

4. Where do I turn in my pledge form?

Pledge forms may be returned to the school office or given to a Norris C.A.R.E.S./Safe Homes volunteer when you see them at an event. To be noted as a Safe Homes house in this year’s directory, forms must be received by October 8, 2007.
