College Acounting

A beginning college-level accounting class is offered through Southeast Community College-Lincoln.   Tuition is paid to SECC; the books are purchased through SECC.  Instruction occurs at Norris.  The class is a one-semester college course (3 hours college credit) but can be taken as Norris over the course of an entire school year.  The class is normally scheduled as a "double" for Mrs. Montgomery--which means this class is usually scheduled in the same time slot as the high school accounting class.  This scheduling process means the student in this class must do a lot of independent work and receive help on an as-needed, when-available basis.

Grading.  For the college credit class, a chapter test is given for each of the chapters covered.  Lab work for each chapter is checked simply for completeness.  A comprehensive final is given at the conclusion of the course.  The final (which is written by SECC) counts 25 percent of the total grade; the chapter tests count for 65 percent of the grade.  The final 10 percent is a grade assigned for lab work and participation.

The curriculum matches what a student at SECC would cover if the student were enrolled as a "regular" student on the Southeast Community College campus.
