  • A natural part of the universe.
  • Everything the eye sees is recorded in color.

  • Color made from absorbed and reflected light.
  • How can we relate to this?

  • Black cars absorb heat!  White reflects.
  • Wear white colors in the summer and dark colors in the winter.

Properties of Color
  • Hue = The name of a color.


  • Value = The degree of lightness of darkness of a color.


  •  Chroma = Intensity of color

Primary Hues

  • Red


  • Yellow


  • Blue

  • The parents of every color.


  • Cannot be created by mixing other colors.

Secondary Hues

  • Violet


  • Green


  • Orange


  • Made from 2 equal parts of primary colors.

Intermediate or Tertiary Hues

  • Red-Orange


  • Blue-Violet


  • Yellow-Green

  • Equal parts of a primary and secondary color are mixed.


  • The primary name comes first!!
