Graduation Honors change

The Board followed through with changes in graduations honors and recognition at the May 10th, 2007 meeting. The discussion began at the July meeting last year.  After publicizing the contemplated change, and allowing time for people to look over the plan and comment, members reported hearing far more positive comments than negative.

Accordingly, the new plan will be in place starting with the class of 2010:

(1)     Beginning with the graduation class of 2010, the designation of a class valedictorian and a salutatorian will replaced by the following honors system:

(2)     Graduating seniors will be recognized according to their grade point averages:

a.       Summa cum laude:                  3.90 – 4.00 cumulative grade point average;

b.       Magna cum laude:                  3.75 – 3.899 grade point average;

c.        Cum laude:                               3.50 – 3.749 grade point average.

(3)     Seniors qualifying for the above graduation honors will be recognized at graduation:

a.       Medallion worn around the neck;

b.       Designation in the program;

c.        Honored students announced and asked to stand – also their parents.

(4)     Students qualifying for summa cum laude may apply to be a student speaker at commencement:  three will be selected.

(5)     Students will continue to have a class rank. All students with a 4.0 grade point average will be tied for #1 in the class.
