An exciting alternative to our current schedule has been proposed! Norris High School has collaborated with the Middle School to develop an exciting alternative to our current schedule. We are capable of running a block schedule next year (2006-2007) that is very similar to the schedule we had a year ago (2004-2005). The schedule includes a modification that will serve as a daily contact period first period daily and a 4th period that is also a daily contact. The period 1 daily contact accommodates band and a number of other classes for daily meeting and the fourth period will serve as an access period / study hall / independent study period. For the vast majority of our students, there is no practical difference for their schedules except that most classes would now be blocked as they were a year ago – fulfilling the wishes of our students and staff. The creation of this schedule does not require additional resources and reflects a cooperative effort between the middle and high schools to put something in place that allows both schools to do what they need to in order to offer an optimal learning setting for kids. The administration and faculty, not to mention most students, have indicated their preference for this sort of schedule – a block schedule that combines some shorter periods that meet daily. While acknowledging that no schedule is perfect, we feel this schedule best serves the needs of Norris High students and reflects the consensus of a year ago that a block is a preferable schedule.
