Option Enrollment Information. (Posted 8-28-2000)
Parents who live outside the Norris School District but who desire to have their child/children attend Norris must complete an Option Enrollment Application Form. These forms are available from the Assistant Superintendent’s office and must be filed between September 1 and January 1 of the current school year in order for the child/children to attend next school year. Requests for option enrollment after the January 1 deadline are not accepted in order to provide ample time for the school to plan for next year.
The resident school district will be notified of the filing of this application by January 15, in accordance with the requirements of Rule 7 from the Nebraska Department of Education. Parents, in turn, will be notified by April 1 of this year whether their child will be accepted as an option student next year.
Acceptance into Norris is determined by the number of students anticipated at each grade level and the number of students in special programs, such as special education. A maximum number of students to be accepted on an option basis into any given grade level is recommended by the Superintendent of Schools and approved by the Board of Education at the March meeting. The maximum number of students allowed into special programs is based upon the recommended ratio of students per teacher for these programs. Siblings of students already enrolled at Norris and students whose parents are building or planning to build in the school district are accepted as option students only if enrollment in the requested grade or program is less than the established maximum or recommended ratio. Priorities on option enrollment requests are awarded in the order in which applications are received. Questions regarding option enrollment should be directed to the Assistant Superintendent office at 791-0000.
