Joe Hornung-Scherr
Subject Area: English
Home Town: Hastings, NE
Year you entered the teaching profession: 1994
Degrees Held & Institution Received From:
Hastings College, B.A.; Doane College, M.A.
Former School Districts:
I taught in Stromsburg for two years and then at Lincoln Northeast for five.
I am returning to teaching this year after spending the last seven as a
stay-at-home dad.
Favorite thing about teaching: I am excited to be around
the positive energy of a school again. Teachers have the opportunity to help
students get their lives started on the right track. It is an awesome and
rewarding responsibility.
Extra Duty Assignments: Although I have coached
cross country, track and basketball in the past, I am doing no coaching at
Norris.
Family: My wife, Heidi, is an attorney in
Lincoln. Our kids are all in grade school at Norris. Our son Sawyer is in second
grade; our son Seneca is in first grade; and our daughter Sadie is in
kindergarten.
Hobbies/Interest Areas: Most of my extra time is spent
working on our old farm house and acreage east of Hickman. I also like to run,
play basketball, do crossword puzzles, read, and spend time with my family. I am
an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and have spent far too much of my life fixated
on Husker football.
