Norris Foundation > Scholarship Descriptions
The following is a brief description of the criteria for each scholarship.
ADEN
Applicants shall plan to attend a college or university or other 4-year
institution and plan to major in science, science education or some other
science related field. Selection shall be based on leadership and academic
standing. Recommendations from members of the Norris High School Science
Department shall be given consideration
BAKER
Applicants shall have shown an interest and involvement in an area of language
arts to include English, drama, speech or journalism. The applicant’s intended
future course of study may be considered but shall not be controlling in the
awarding of scholarships. The Board shall consider recommendations from members
of the Norris High School language arts department and/or faculty. The Board
shall also give due consideration to recommendations from members of the Edward
Baker family.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Two scholarships are awarded, one to a boy and one to a girl. These scholarships
are awarded to students who have truly distinguished themselves as outstanding –
academically and overall leadership
HENKE
One scholarship shall be awarded each year. Applicant shall plan to attend an
accredited university, college, community college, vocational technical school
or other 2 or 4-year institution of higher education. Applicant must have
received a State FFA Degree or have been an officer in the Norris High School
FFA Program and rank in the upper 50 percent of his/her graduating class
according to the class rank at the end of the first semester of his/her senior
year. The Norris Chapter of FFA will make a recommendation.
HIERONYMUS
Two scholarships (one male and one female). Applicants shall have been active in
the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Program during high school. In addition,
considerations will be given to applicants who regularly participated in various
school-sponsored activities. Priority for awarding the scholarship shall be
given to students graduating in the upper 25% of their class according to class
rank at the end of the first semester senior year.
KOHOUT
This scholarship is to be awarded to a senior who is letter winner in the sport
of softball; has dedicated themselves to being the best softball player possible
regardless of the natural ability. Although financial need may be considered,
“love of the game” and commitment to give a 100% effort shall be the determining
factor.
MARTIN
The applicants must be in the top 50% of the graduating class and have been
involved in high school athletics all four years. (At least one sport.)
MCCONNELL
Applicants shall have demonstrated a commitment to community service through
their non-paying, repetitive volunteer activities chosen and entered into by the
student him or herself, which may include, but not b limited to, volunteer work
in hospitals or with volunteer fire departments, assistance at homeless
shelters, soup kitchens or food pantries. Financial need may be used as a
consideration.
NOSAL
This scholarship is offered to one all-around good student who is interested in
further his/her education.
PTO
One scholarship each is awarded to one boy and one girl who have attended Norris
School District 160 for at least 5 years, including 3 years in the elementary
school. Recipients shall be determined by a majority vote of the Board of
Directors of the Foundation and shall be awarded to the female and male
runner-up for the Board of Director’s scholarship.
TEKOLSTE
This is a scholarship for a graduating senior who will attend an 18 month or two
year community college to learn a trade.
THOMPSON
Applicants must have actively participated in girls athletics for four years,
rank in the upper 50 percent of her graduating class according to the class rank
at the end of the first semester of her senior year and have demonstrated
positive leadership qualities. Applicants shall not have already received a
full-ride scholarship.
WUNIBALD
This scholarship is to be awarded to a senior planning to attend an accredited
university, college, community college, vocational technical school or other 2
or 4-year institution of higher learning. Recipient shall have participated in a
Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) three of the four years of high
school and be a member their senior year. The current CTSO’s at Norris High
School are Skills USA-VICA, FFA, FBLA and FCCLA. They shall have demonstrated
leadership skills in the community and have dedicated themselves to showing
through example the mission behind a CTSO. GPA must be a 3.0 or better.
Financial need may be considered in awarding this scholarship.
WILLIAMS
A various numbers of scholarships may be awarded. A preference as to both the
awarding of a scholarship and the amount of such scholarship shall be given to
persons who are physically handicapped. Prior scholarship recipients who
re-apply for additional scholarships to continue their education shall, if
continued academic achievement is demonstrated, be given a preference over
non-physically handicapped graduating high school seniors.
